The Blogger Recognition Award – How I started My Blog and What I’ve Learned

Hi Everyone! Hope you are having a lovely week!

Recently Amy from Little Indie nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award. That was so lovely to open up my laptop to see! Considering my blog is still just a baby and to be quite honest, I still have no idea what I’m doing, feeling that my little posts have been enjoyed really put a big ol’ smile on my face!

If you haven’t already come across Amy’s blog you can check it out here: Little Indie

Ranging from beautiful wanderlust inducing photography, fashion and some sodding good lifestyle insights, I love her blog!! Her words are also so engaging and honestly written and makes me feel so positive! So thank you Amy for nominating my own blog! It really made my day!

The Rules

  1. Thank the blogger that nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select 15 bloggers you want to give this award to.
  6. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them, providing a link to the post you created

How my Blog Started:

Okay, well… to be honest, I have no idea! I never really planned to start a blog. I’m away with the fairies more often than not, and have been known to be associated with the phrase dolly daydreamer on more than one occasion, meaning sometimes I just find myself doing something and getting obsessed with it without really knowing what triggered the desire to do it. I know… I’m a dippy egg.

I’ve always loved taking photos, whether actually attempting a nice composition using my DSLR, just snapping away on my phone (sorry storage you’re always full) or just Instagram-ing my lunch (yes I am one of those people, sorry!) I spend a pretty big percentage of my time taking and tweaking various photographs attempting to make them look their loveliest!

So I graduated university last summer, and when I got home, I found that after the immediate end of exams elation, I rather rapidly fell back down to earth with a thud thinking….what now… I think most recent graduates would agree with me on that, and if you don’t, please tell me your secrets!! I found that in my free time and days off, without constant focus on assignments or studying I felt kind of lost… without anything interesting or new to challenge me or focus my attention on. What the hell did I used to do before revision?!

I stumbled upon WordPress while reading a blog online, and kind of unawares found myself making log in andΒ just started uploading some photos of my recent trip to some Cotswold’s Villages (gonna add in a cheeky little ‘which you can see here if you fancy:Β ‘A Very English Adventure’) hehe.

Before I knew it every spare moment I had I got obsessed with making my blog look just how I wanted it to and loving writing posts and uploading my photographs, it felt like my photos had more of a purpose than just me looking at them and I liked that πŸ™‚

Saying that, like I said, my blog is still a baby… an embryo even! hahaha embryo blog. That’s a weird analogy. But yes, in a pretty rambly nutshell that is how I started blogging. I am super glad that particular stumble upon happened though because I Β am so far LOVING everything about it!! I love that not only can you share your own favorite things, but the best thing is interacting with fellow bloggers and feeling inspired by them, seeing their beautiful photographs and getting Β snippets and insights into wonderful moments in their lives! Its the spreading and sharing of joyous moments i love the most!

So yeah…sorry that wasn’t very brief was it… I NEED TO STOP RAMBLING DAMMIT

My Two Pieces of Advice:

Now this is a little tricky because like I said I really don’t have any idea what i’m doing still! But what I would say for blogging is to just never stop learning, whether its googling ‘how to’s’, or asking another blogger you admire how they did such and such, how they got that shot that way, or how they got that theme on their site. Always ask questions! Be curious! People love to share their wisdom and knowledge and kindness goes a LONG way!!

My second piece of advice would be to never see your blog as a chore, which I doubt anyone would anyway or why would you have started it, but to really just LOVE what you write about! I think you can definitely feel when someone has written a post just for the hell of it, boredom, for clicks, for bulking their blog and when people are really passionate about what they’re writing! Putting love into your work is what makes it special and makes it yours. When you love your blog others will love it too! And if you read a someones post and love it, comment and tell them!! It makes me so happy for the whole day when someone takes time out their day to comment and tell me they enjoyed a post or some of my photos.

I sometimes think when I hit the publish button, ‘is this silly? does anyone really care about this?…’ but NO! whether it’s some photos of your day, some thoughts on something you care about, or a recipe for a cake that’s just so frickin’ delicious you have to share it! Whatever you want to blog, if it makes YOU happy, then that’s the most important, go for it!! Blog your bloggy little hearts out! And let me know! I’d love to read it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

But that’s just my humble opinion, like i say, i just have an embryo blog hahah

Lovely post Lottie – I know how you feel about being lost after uni and blogging is great for filling the void after studying none stop. You also said so many nice things about me, thank you! ?

I also completely agree with your advice to not see your blog as a chore. Whenever I’m feeling the presssure to write because I’ve not in a while, I stop myself or it’ll just end up a rushed mess, and no-one wants to read that! Better to write nothing than stuff we don’t put our hearts into and really care about ?
